SimpleSkelly is a practical Blender rigging tool built to remove the repetitive setup work.
Place a few guides around your character, build the skeleton, then create a complete control rig. It is designed to stay simple enough for quick use without hiding the steps that matter.
Quick Rig
Choose whether your character is a biped or quadruped, set the facing direction, and place the guides. SimpleSkelly uses those guides to build the skeleton before generating the final rig controls.
This works well for quickly testing proportions, posing characters, preparing models for animation, or creating a solid starting point for further rigging work.
Mecha Bind
Mechanical characters often consist of many separate rigid objects. SimpleSkelly includes a separate binding workflow that assigns each selected mesh object to its closest bone.
This is useful for:
- Mecha characters
- Robots
- Hard-surface models
- Armour pieces
- Modular mechanical assemblies
Because the parts remain rigid, you avoid manually assigning every separate object one by one.
Custom Rig
Already have your own skeleton?
SimpleSkelly can build animation controls over an existing humanoid armature. You define which existing bones represent the hips, spine, arms, legs and other required body parts, then the tool creates the control structure, including IK where appropriate.
This lets you keep your original deformation skeleton while gaining a cleaner and easier animation rig.
Main Features
- Guide-based biped and quadruped rig creation
- Selectable character facing direction
- Separate skeleton and control-rig creation stages
- Automatic binding for rigid and mechanical parts
- Control-rig generation for existing custom skeletons
- IK and animation controls based on Rigify
- Clear separation between character rigging, mecha binding and custom-rig workflows
- Editable Blender rig with no locked output
Requirements
SimpleSkelly uses Blender’s built-in Rigify add-on for control-rig generation. The tool will attempt to enable Rigify automatically and will tell you clearly when it needs to be enabled manually.
Who It Is For
SimpleSkelly is aimed at artists who need a fast, understandable way to get characters moving without rebuilding the same basic rig setup every time.
It is especially useful for character artists, hard-surface artists, concept artists, indie developers and anyone working with mechanical characters.
