Sliceform PopUp Tools

Wolfram Kampffmeyer in Presets

Can I also use wood, acrylic, or metal?
Yes. The basic construction principle is independent of the material. However, you should account for the actual material thickness and the kerf/tolerance of your cutting process.
Does the add-on automatically compensate for laser kerf?
No. Material thickness can be defined in the add-on, but machine-specific kerf and fit tolerances should be adjusted according to your material and cutting process.
Can I change the generated slices manually?
Yes. The workflow intentionally keeps the intermediate geometry accessible. You can move slicing planes, inspect slices, and make manual adjustments when an unusual model requires more control.
Why does Blender crash even when I try to slice the default Blender Cube?
The default Blender Cube is 2 meters wide, while wk_sliceformPopUp is designed around objects of approximately 30 cm as a typical working size. With very large objects, the default SliceMaker → Grid Size creates an unnecessarily dense slicing grid, which can require a large amount of memory and may cause Blender to crash. For objects around the size of Blender's default Cube, increase SliceMaker → Grid Size to at least 90 mm before creating the slicing planes. This significantly reduces the mesh density and should allow the slicing process to run normally. In general: the larger your model, the larger the Grid Size should be.
Can I adjust the material thickness?
Yes. The slot width can be adapted to the thickness of your material. This is useful for paper, cardboard, plywood, acrylic, metal, and other sheet materials.
Does the add-on work with any 3D model?
Many models work well, but the quality of the result depends on the geometry. Closed and reasonably clean meshes usually produce the best results. Very thin parts, complex intersections, holes, or extremely detailed geometry may require some preparation before slicing.
Do I need Blender experience to use the add-on?

Basic Blender knowledge is recommended, but you do not need to be an advanced user. The workflow is divided into separate steps, making it easy to inspect and adjust the result along the way. A few basic tutorials should help you to get started.
