Surface Chipping — Procedural Shader Mask
Why does Factor 0 not restore my original material?
Factor 0 sets the mask output to zero.
Does Surface Chipping change the mesh or create real holes?
The included example uses Bump to change surface shading. It does not remove
mesh faces, create through-holes, change the silhouette, or automatically
detect edges. Adjust Bump Strength and Distance for the apparent depth.
Does the pattern follow animated objects?
Generated coordinates keep the mask attached during object transforms and
normal fixed-topology mesh deformations. Translation, rotation, nonuniform
scale, shape keys, armature poses, and Bend were tested in Blender 5.0.1 and
5.2.1. Remeshing or editing texture space can change the mapping.
Does it require UVs, image textures, or an add-on?
No. The mask uses Generated coordinates and procedural nodes. No UV map, image
textures, or add-on installation is required to generate this mask.
Is this a complete material or a shader mask?
Surface Chipping is a reusable procedural mask node group. It includes a simple
Suzanne material example with Bump and Roughness connections. You can also add
the mask to your existing materials.
