Why choose Trimotion over other optimization methods?
Trimotion offers multiple professional algorithms (including unique Key Pose detection), intuitive UI with action management, selective bone processing, and is specifically designed for mocap workflows. It's fast, reliable, and produces production-ready results.
Can I adjust settings after simplifying?
You cannot "unsimplify" an action. However, you can undo (Ctrl+Z), adjust settings, and re-simplify. This is why we recommend duplicating actions before simplifying.
What if I have multiple actions on one armature?
Use the action dropdown to switch between actions. Simplify each action individually by selecting it from the dropdown, then clicking Simplify.
Does Key Pose method work on all animation types?
Key Pose works best on smooth, natural human motion (walking, gestures, etc.). It may be too aggressive for very fast motion (fighting, sports) - use 2x strength or RDP instead for those cases.
Is there a way to preview before applying?
Currently, simplification applies immediately (with undo support). We recommend: 1) Duplicate action with + button, 2) Simplify the duplicate, 3) Switch between original and simplified using dropdown to compare.
Can I use this for VR applications?
Absolutely! VR applications benefit greatly from optimized animations. Reduced keyframe count means better performance and lower memory usage, crucial for VR.
What's the typical file size reduction?
With 3x simplification, expect 50-70% file size reduction for FBX/BVH exports. A 2MB mocap file might reduce to 600-800KB while maintaining visual quality.
Will this work with constraints and drivers?
The addon processes FCurve keyframes directly. Constraints and drivers are preserved. However, if your animation is driven by expressions rather than keyframes, simplification won't apply.
How do I switch between different simplified versions?
Use the action dropdown in the info box. Duplicate your action (+ button), simplify it, then switch between original and simplified using the dropdown to compare.
Can I process multiple characters at once?
Yes! Use "Batch Simplify All Rigs" to process every armature in your scene simultaneously with the same settings.
Why the keyframe comes back when I export and import the animation
Blender always fills the blank frame with keyframes while exporting, so that it remains compatible with other 3D software.
What if the animation looks jittery after simplification?
Lower the strength (try 2x instead of 4x) or decrease the sensitivity multiplier. The Decimate method can cause jitter at high strengths - switch to RDP or Adaptive for smoother results.
Does this work with non-mocap animations?
Yes! While designed for mocap, Trimotion works with any keyframed animation. Use it to optimize hand-animated sequences, simulations, or any dense keyframe data.
Which method should I use for game engines?
RDP at 3x strength is ideal for game engines. It provides excellent compression while maintaining quality. For Unity/Unreal, this typically reduces file size by 50-70% with no visible difference.
Can I simplify only certain bones?
Yes! Enter Pose Mode, select the bones you want to simplify, then click "Simplify Selected Bones". Perfect for treating facial bones differently from body bones.
How do I make my mocap editable for further animation work?
Use the "Key Pose (Experimental)" method with 2x-3x strength. This creates animator-style curves with keyframes only at important poses, making it easy to adjust timing and poses in the Graph Editor.
What's the difference between RDP and Key Pose methods?
RDP preserves the exact curve shape and is best for general use. Key Pose detects turning points like an animator would, removing linear transitions to create editable curves. RDP = quality preservation, Key Pose = editability.
Can I undo the simplification?
Yes! All operations fully support Blender's undo system (Ctrl+Z). Additionally, we recommend duplicating your action (+ button) before simplifying to keep a backup.
Does simplification affect animation quality?
With proper settings (3x RDP recommended), visual quality is maintained. The algorithms are designed to preserve the animation curve shape while removing redundant keyframes. Always test and compare before finalizing.
Will this work with my Rococo mocap data?
Yes! Trimotion was specifically designed with Rococo's 100fps output in mind. It handles high-density mocap data excellently and typically achieves 50-70% reduction while maintaining visual quality.
What Blender versions are supported?
Blender 4.0 or later. The addon is tested and verified on Blender 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.4 and 4.5 LTS. It uses standard Blender Python API features for maximum compatibility.
