If I knew you were planning to release another version, I would have chosen GAEA.. I paid $81 for this version. Are you kidding me? You release another version without improving the addon?

      Hi Seong

We've been very clear for the last 18 months, that True-Terrain 5 is a new and paid update. Anyone who owned version 4 has been given a 65% off discount for the upgrade and anyone who purchased the sunset version of 4 has essentially been given 4 for free because you get a $35 discount off 5.

GAEA uses the same paid update model as we have used here, however we have provided free updates to True-Terrain for nearly 6 years. People who purchased version 1 back when it was $15 got all the updates through to 4.5 for free.

      Hi Shawn

I'm really sorry to hear that you had a frustrating experience with our add-on. We take all feedback seriously, and I’d like to address the points you've raised.

First, I apologize if the installation instructions weren’t clear. We regularly update our documentation to ensure it’s as user-friendly as possible, and we would appreciate any specific suggestions you might have to improve it further.

Regarding updates, I want to clarify that we’ve provided regular free updates over the past six years, continuously improving our products based on user feedback. As for True-Terrain 5, it is indeed a paid upgrade due to the significant enhancements and new features we’ve introduced. However, we’ve made sure to offer a substantial discount for existing users to make the upgrade as accessible as possible.

If you're open to it, I’d love to discuss your experience further and see how we can make it right. Please reach out to us directly, and we’ll do our best to resolve any issues you’re facing.

Thanks for your feedback, and again, I’m sorry for any inconvenience caused.

      Best regards,
      Richard

    It's a semi-finished product~~~

I don't like this product. I've been hesitant to review it, as I know it's complex, and needs some study to make work properly. That said, straight out of the box, adding a second ground shader grinds my computer (a very fast PC) down like accidently adding 10,000 grass particles to a scene. So, I can use a ground shader and a cliff shader without wrecking things. There's no reason 3 materials mixed on a landscape should even vaguely slow things down. I even use the speed up shader option. I routinely model in Evee with many 4k materials, lights, fog etc, because I enjoy doing so, and my computer can easily handle it. As a matter of fact, the only thing at all that grinds my computer down is complex water shaders and thousands of particles. But even if I just use 2 shaders on a landscape, the resulting mix is often jaggedy, as though it's somehow applied per triangulated face. Other mixers don't do this. There's a terrain mixer for sale here for $1 that does a beautiful job of slope mixing right out of the box. My point is, if I need to study this product more to solve those basic issues, I don't want to. On to the spawned assets. Agin, out of the box, I had to fix an issue with them floating. You need to drill down to the offset slider and set it to zero. Why? Another very popular nature asset set on this site spawns nicely on the ground, no need to adjust anything. It's also exetremely heavy. I mentioned that earlier concerning the 3 ground materials mixed. Just be warned that my extremely fast PC that has few issues with anything stumbles on this. Other people seem to love it. Shoulder shrug. I have Pro, the latest edition as of Sept 30, 2021. It seems to be somewhat overstated in the demo video. Just my constructive, well-considered thoughts.

      Hi Doug,
As you mentioned in your review, you're using Eevee... We explicitly state that this addon is not for Eevee and Eevee will cause slowdowns when mixing materials. This is because Eevee cannot handle complex shader trees.

In that respect, the one star is a bit irrational as you're grading the product on a feature its not built for.

If you'd have ever contacted us, then we could have made this clear and helped you work through any issues that you've had, but we've never had any contact from you whatsoever.

I do appreciate your comments however, as its a valid argument for making it clear not to use Eevee, so in that respect, thank you for your comments. Rating is still a little low in all fairness though..

      Kind regards

First of all, I don't want to insult the creators in making this rating of True-terrain but I also want to help people with budgets not to spend unreasonable amounts of money buying add-ons to Blender that I find are not being honest about their update policies.

I bought TT pro 3.0, less than a year ago and at that time it was the most expensive tier you could get and I/we were promised free updates forever. When you buy the highest tier (Pro version) of a add-on you don't really think that 6 month later they will just obliterate the promise of free updates they made by releasing an "Ultimate" version and ask you to pay an additional $50 to get to the highest tier again when the most reasonable thing to do would be to "upgrade" PRO customers to Ultimate, when it is really just a "smart" change of name that they made to their product. Even worse is that "we have to hurry about upgrading" because it will be even more expensive if you wait much longer and it will never ever be cheaper again. This seems like a very dishonest way of treating customers and now we can likely expect to see an "Ultimate Plus" version if this behavior goes unchallenged. The new price for the highest tier is now said to be $139 which is really pushing the limits for an add-on which requires Blender to function in any meaningful way and as you all know Blender is free. For that amount of money you can almost get highly professional terrain creation products and they will not promise you updates that you will then see disappear because they release a new version that now only gets the new features and assets which they promised that you would get with the original purchase.

Add-ons for Blender has to use GPL license in order to comply with the openness build into Blender and GPL demands that you make no restriction to what the code can be used for, as long as you provide the same opportunities (GPL license) if you change the code and distribute it yourself. We don't do that because we appreciate the work of the creators and want them to provide good work for the community but it does require honesty and not acting like even most developers of proprietary software would do.

Don't make a promise that you will not keep by circumventing it with another tier that vill receive most of the added content and maybe also most the features one day. This is not honest. I love Blender and Blender Market and I want it to keep on being the great place for selling and buying honest products that it has been so far.

Unfortunately I will not be able to answer after posting this rating and I have already pointed out these problems to the creator of TT but didn't get any understanding for my views as a customer that feels bad about the broken promises.

BTW, I have bought more that 50 add-ons here but only once before encountered this bad policy.

      Hi Peter,

It's unfortunate that we're not able to upload images here, as we'd be able to show the conversation that we've had with you all morning about this, a conversation where we explained the decision that was made about pricing, and how that pricing does not affect updates or features, purely amount of content.

When you purchased True-Terrain in November of 2020, you got the product for close to $30. True-Terrain pro is now $59 as we have added more content and features. You did not have to pay any additional fee for this update/upgrade, it was provided to you for FREE, as all our updates are. Is this not fair?

We have also provided all customers with a of Pro and Lite, with coupon codes for moving up a tier at a cost reduced in line with what the current price of their tier is. For example, if you wish to upgrade to the Ultimate Tier, from PRO, then you are given a $59 reduction in price (the price of PRO as of now) Which actually means that in your case, and anyone else who got PRO before it cost $59, means that you're getting a higher discount, than anyone who paid $59 for PRO. We thought this was fair!

We sent a survey out last year, asking all customers that had True-Terrain, to let us know what they think of the pricing (at the time) how much more new content they would like in the next update, what they thought that the RRP of that version once released would be, and whether they would like the option of a higher tier, and whether it should be free to people who already own the product. The answers we received for this, led us to the current pricing, and addition of a higher tier. That way allowing people with any level of budget to purchase a product. We also even offer a free version, available for download via our product page. Based on customer feedback, which we though made us fair?

We also explained all of this to you in the email exchange earlier today, both about the pricing, how you actually did get your free update and upgrade, getting over 80 new assets at no cost in the PRO version, moving from 3.x to 4.x. We also explained to you that, we are still a business at the end of the day, and we do this full-time, we can't just give away content after spending over 7 months working on it. We couldn't move PRO to Ultimate without moving LITE to PRO. We were also told explicitly in survey responses, and even now by our community, to not keep giving content away for free. Which we do regularly, and even in your downloads, there's literally a download called "gift pack". Seems reasonably fair to us..

In regards to the whole "you won't get this cheaper comment", that's entirely correct, people will not get the chance to upgrade to Ultimate, any cheaper than they have been able to for the last 2 months, after the 7th of September, as that's when the price will increase, meaning that the jump between tiers will cost more. That being said, the date the price was to increase was the 1st of September, and we had a lot of people contact us to ask if we could push that date back, as the sale was on, and people wanted more time to upgrade. So we pushed the date back from the 1st, to the 7th of September. Again, just another thing we did to try and be fair.

GPL means nothing when it comes to non-code content. We don't charge for features, or anything to do with the core features of the addon. We charge the fee we do, based on the content that's available. We think that 160+ texture sets, 8 procedural materials, 4 water types, 8 grass types, 11 rock systems with over 50 unique models, and 5 tree systems with over 50 unique models seems pretty fair for the cost of Ultimate too. It is, however not fair, that you email us telling us that "[you] expected to have been moved up a tier" and that "[we're] being greedy, by charging what we charge", and "how we can justify it, when Blender is free". Blender is free, so is True-Terrain, Blender makes money through donations, we make money through selling products.

      > "Unfortunately I will not be able to answer after posting this rating and I have already pointed out these problems to the creator of TT but didn't get any understanding for my views as a customer that feels bad about the broken promises."

We understood your views, and explained the rationale behind the pricing. You didn't understand our views, after several emails back and forth, then contacted us for support around how to import your own materials and assets, then sent a final email thanking us, and wishing us success, only to leave a 1 star review riddled with inaccuracies about the actual exchange between us.

I don't know why I can't use this plugin.Once the ground is added to the material, the render window starts to slow down and then starts to fade away。eevee and cycle all like this .

    • TrueVFX

      Hi Fang,

Did you read the disclaimer in the product description?

      "DISCMALIMER:

Before you purchase this, you will have noticeable slowdown if you're using the minimum specs for Blender, found HERE. I recommend using their recommended specs, although 8GB of RAM will be enough for more basic scenes.

Please join the discord channel here to view scene settings on how to optimise using True Terrain around your system specs."

If you don't meet these requirements, then you will notice slowdown.

As also advised in the documentation, there are many ways to speed up your viewport. Eevee is not supported, so using either eevee or the material preview option will not work. Please check the render engine used in the product description.

      Hi James,

I'm sorry you're unhappy with the product. I'm a bit upset that you didn't contact me before hand about this.

That being said, your card is 6 years old and has 1gb of video ram. A standard system on windows alone would use close to 50% of this just running a HD monitor and blender open. I don't think it's fair to place such a poor review on a product because your system has trouble rendering 4k textures.

I'd have been able to help you address rendering issues and give you advice on how to reduce the amount of vram used.

I was not going to buy True-Terrain until the Developer told me Mid may that he was going to make both a new install doc and usage tutorial for Blneder 2.8. There are many parts and an install would be nice since it seemed to need to be installed in a special order.
So I bought True-Terrain while I waited for the usage tutorial I asked twice for help getting True-Terrain up and running in 2.8.
Since my purchase he has ghosted me and never made either of the promised 2.8 tutorials.
It is now almost 4 months later and not only did not make the tutorials he has not left a replay for my requests

Hi Rob, I'm really sorry to hear you're upset by this.

I have just searched through all the emails I've had here, and can see the last we spoke was June, and I did say at the time I will be getting tutorials up for 2.80 and have currently not done this.

The reason for not having put up a tutorial for 2.80 yet has 3 points really:

1- the first tutorial video explains what to install, and how to do so. Which is the same in version 2.80 under the user prefs

2- the rest of the folders and files are not needed to install, they are additional scenes, and assets (rock pack, water shader, grass pack and textures) these aren't installed through the prefs panel. You just need to append the assets from these files.

3- I've been working hard to rebuild the whole system with a new ui, new features and additional benefits. Which as I've mentioned in communication to you, can take its toll while I work a full time job.

I am truly sorry that I've made you feel this way. And appreciate that it shouldn't take a review to get my attention, so I will create a new video this weekend and upload it. Again, I can't apologise enough and appreciate that you've had to wait a while. I've had a lot of emails and have honestly just missed yours in the slew of messages.

I hope you can accept this apology.

      Rich
