You know those weird diagonal lines that show up in geometric patterns? Or when you zoom out and suddenly realize the texture is just the same thing tiled over and over? It's obviously unnatural, especially in terrains.

I found a better way to generate patterns and now I'm obsessed with aperiodic tilings. They cover an infinite plane, but they never actually repeat. This shape was only discovered in 2023, and it's really hard to work with without a tool. So I made the tool.

The images feel different. They don't have that "computer texture" look. They don't settle into obvious rhythms, and they avoid a lot of those distracting diagonal artifacts that show up with regular grids.

There is so much customization possible with this tool, including patch area, side style (flat, curvy, jagged, custom). You can even organize into collections based on label of type (for those familiar with aperiodic monotiles: Gamma, Phi, Xi, etc).

Workflow (about a minute)

Install the add-on from the ZIP (Edit → Preferences → Add-ons → Install).

Create an API key at untiling.com.

In the Monotile panel, choose boundary and depth → Generate and Import GLB.

Shade, instance, or refine per tile in Blender.

Internet required — geometry is generated on the API, not offline.
