Does it work with my own car models?

Yes. Select the car’s body and click Auto Setup Car. It finds the body, wheels, doors, hood, trunk, glass and lights, then builds the physics automatically. It works best with a closed body standing on its wheels. Merged wheels and rims are split for you. Doors, hood and trunk open only if they are separate objects. Check Car tells you anything to fix before you drive.
