wk_RockPipeline

Wolfram Kampffmeyer in Rendering

This tool was developed while working on real client projects.

Build complete simulation pipelines in Blender.

Generate procedural rocks, prepare optimized assets, export animation, simulate externally, and render millions of instances using VDBs and Point Clouds.

  • Supports VDB workflows
  • Point Cloud Instancing
  • Geometry Scatter
  • Procedural Rock Generation

Why Rock Pipeline?

Animation → Simulation → Rendering

Instead of mixing everything into one production file, Rock Pipeline separates your workflow into clean stages.

  • Animate with lightweight stand-ins.
  • Export only what needs to be simulated.
  • Simulate using Blender, Pro Particles, Pro Pyro or other tools.
  • Import VDBs or Point Clouds back into the render scene.
  • Render with millions of optimized instances.

Procedural Rock Generator

Automatically generate High, Mid and Low poly assets, complete with baked normal maps, in a single batch process.

Geometry Scatter

Scatter multiple collections across any surface using configurable layers. Control density, scale, placement and rotation while combining different asset types in a single setup. Weight maps allow precise placement exactly where you need it.

Highlights:

  • Multiple scatter layers
  • Weight maps
  • Size categories
  • Randomization
  • Size distribution (Small / Medium / Large)
  • Global minimum distance per layer

Point Cloud Instancing

Imported point clouds become fully procedural instancing systems. Assign different collections based on particle size, mass or group ID, layer multiple asset types and control scale, rotation and spin—all without modifying the original simulation.

Highlights:

  • Multiple instance layers
  • Assign by particle size, mass or group ID
  • Collection-based instancing
  • Random scale and variation
  • Animated spin effects
  • Deterministic randomization
  • Non-destructive Geometry Nodes workflow

Perfect for debris, rocks, vegetation, buildings, traffic signs or any other instanced assets.

Exclude Particles

New in v1.5.5: You can now exclude individual particle points from instancing by their Particle ID. This is useful for removing isolated particles that look unnatural or interfere with your scene, without modifying the original simulation.

Animation & VDB Pipeline

Separate animation, simulation and rendering into clean production stages. Export animated stand-ins, simulate in a dedicated scene, then import VDB sequences or Point Caches back into your final render scene for fast iteration and efficient rendering.

Highlights:

  • Export animated stand-ins
  • Import baked animations
  • Import VDB sequences
  • Import Point Cloud caches
  • Separate simulation and render scenes
  • Faster iteration for FX workflows
  • Designed for large-scale productions

A production-oriented workflow that keeps animation, simulation and rendering independent while remaining fully connected.

Who is it for?

  • Environment Artists
  • FX Artists
  • Motion Designers
  • Technical Artists
  • Blender Studios

Rock Pipeline combines several production tools into one workflow.

  • No manual setup.
  • No repeated node construction.
  • No repetitive export/import steps.

Wolfram Kampffmeyer:

I didn't build these tools as a side project. They were created while working on real productions, solving real problems as they came up. Every feature exists because I needed it myself.
