Blender Girih Lab:
pattern textures, built right inside Blender
What can you do with it?
Girih, zellige and the star patterns of Iznik, Isfahan or the Alhambra all grow from one idea: a grid of polygons with rays that meet and cross at every edge. Girih Lab draws them for you, live in the viewport. Choose from 104 tilings in five groups (Archimedean, 2 Uniform, Girih, Rhombi, Stars & more), open and close the stars with a single Angle slider, and colour them with 14 palettes, from historic tile-work to soft pastels. Switch between interlaced bands, flat bands and fine lines, load one of 12 classic designs with a click, or press Random to explore. Nothing is created until you are happy with it.
Beyond tradition
The Art section lets you leave the rules behind: Row shift slides every second row of tiles, and Spin turns every tile around its own centre. With the Second Layer you lay a second pattern textures, with its own tiling, angle, style and palette, on top of the first.

Made to work with Blender Polygon Studio
Girih Lab comes with Blender Polygon Studio, a small offline tool that runs in your browser and lets you build tilings of your own. Start from any of the 104 presets, attach triangles, hexagons, girih tiles, rhombi and stars edge to edge, or swap pieces to discover new tilings. Every copy changes together, and the star preview follows live. Press Save JSON, then Import in Girih Lab, and your tiling appears in the Custom category with the angle, palette and line style you chose.
