  The tools are great and easy to use, however for me this addon routinely crashes Blender during rendering. tested with even just a scene containing ONLY a single instance of the 3D text and still crashed during rendering.

  it is still possible to painstaking render out the sequence in little drips by rendering to image and starting from the last frame before the crash each time but this is a bit of a pain on longer sequences

  Hi Foothold, sorry for the inconvenience.
  This is an old Blender bug that occurs in some systems. There are two workarounds:
  - Lock UI for render
  - Bake your text (addon feature), disable text effects add-on, then render

  This will prevent any crash during render.

  I have to agree with David. An older version of TextFX exists at CodeofArt, excelling in every detail. This addon has many issues and development has come to a halt unfortunately... Best to wait for something better

  The fact that this add-on ruins your preset text alignment/layout with no option to center/middle align makes it unusable for me.
