Make It Float! (Beta) - Low Poly Floating Islands, Diorama Worlds and Board Game Tiles for Blender
The add-on builds everything on this page in a few clicks, with every setting live, and comes with the Only Asset Kit too. The Lite add-on does the same for islands in every world, with water, decor, sky, bridges, stories, animation, light and export, but has no board game tiles, no Open World and no Dioramator; it comes with the Only Asset Kit too, and the full add-on is $50 more. The Only Asset Kit, on its own, is the islands, tiles, pieces, bridges, skies, light rigs and materials as ready assets in one .blend for Blender's Asset Browser: you build by hand, with no add-on, so no live settings, no Paint the Ground, no Dioramator, no world or board builder, no Director, no export tools and no expansion packs.
No, 217 of them, because Superhive's asset system holds at most 500 assets per product. It carries every island, tile, piece, bridge, sky and light rig (209 collections) and the 8 MIF Sky worlds. The 368 materials are not in it as assets of their own: each one still comes inside every island and piece that uses it, but to drag a loose colour onto a model of yours, use the kit file. All 585 are in MakeItFloat_Only_Asset_Kit_0.10.6.zip, which comes with every variant: unzip it and add its folder in Edit, Preferences, File Paths, Asset Libraries.
Blender 4.2 LTS is the minimum. I check it with an automated suite in 4.2 and in 5.2, the versions I use. Other versions should work; the day I test one, I will say so here. It renders in Cycles and EEVEE: every material is a plain Principled material.
Yes. The edges of every tile stay level, so any two tiles of the same size meet at the same height along the whole side, and a river or a path that leaves one tile through a side comes in at the same place on the next. Build Board does the matching for you; on a single tile you choose the sides yourself.
Yes: a colour 3MF for filament printers, a full colour 3MF for UV and other full colour printers, or an STL, at the size you set in millimetres, and a floating island can get a printable stand. Thin parts are what to watch: falls, blades of grass, leaves and flags can be thinner than your printer can make. You set the Thinnest wall (0.8 mm suits a 0.4 mm nozzle): open surfaces are made solid that thick, and Thin parts decides what happens to anything thinner, thickened along its thin side, left out, or kept as it is. Check for Printing counts them before you export. Always check the model in your slicer before you print: making it fit your printer is up to you. I have not print-tested every slicer myself yet; the day I do, I will say so here.
Yes. Export a GLB (Godot, the web, AR, VR and most engines) or an FBX with presets for Unity and Unreal, all in one file or one file per island, tile or open world chunk, with levels of detail: named for Unity's LOD Group, one file per level plus an import script for Unreal. Game helpers come along if you want them: a collision mesh of the ground, spawn and bridge markers, and a world.json of what is where. Every closed piece faces outwards, so engines that draw one side only show it whole. The files are checked in Blender by the automated suite; I have not yet tried the LOD import in every engine myself, and the day I do, I will say so here. Without LODs the build-up animation goes along as keyframes; the floating and flowing stay in Blender.
Select it and press Shape Islands Like It in the Dioramator. Its outline seen from above becomes the island, every separate part (every letter) an island of its own, joined by bridges; the High camera view reads words best. Holes inside a shape, like the middle of an O, are filled.
Yes. Make the Film flies the camera from island to island in the order of your story and back out; Day and Night and the weather loop over the same frames. Everything is ordinary keyframes and drivers, so you can still change any shot.
Yes, royalty free and with no credit needed: renders, animations, videos, games, apps, archviz, prints and products you sell, client work and brand colours included. You can also use the islands and pieces as a base for new, original assets of your own, and sell those. What you cannot do is sell, share, give away or upload the islands, tiles, pieces and other assets themselves, on their own or in a pack, modified or not, or in any form that lets other people take them out and use them as assets. The add-on's code is GPL, as Blender asks of every add-on. Updates and support are included for good, with no support period and no renewal fee.
No AI inside and no internet: it is geometry and node code that runs offline on your computer.
