Phosphor: Crt Factory For Blender
Will Phosphor leave anything behind in my file?
No. Removing Phosphor fully cleans up the node group and restores your compositor. No leftover data or nodes remain.
What Blender version is required?
Blender 5.0 or later.
Can I disable specific parts of the effect?
Yes. Each section is independent.
Scanlines can be toggled directly. Other effects such as glow, distortion, and color can be reduced to neutral values if not needed.
The viewport looks correct but the render has no effect
Make sure Compositing is enabled in Render Properties under Post Processing. If disabled, the compositor will not run during render.
Can I use it on video or image sequences?
Yes. Phosphor processes whatever is connected to the compositor output. This includes Movie Clips and Image sequences, not just Render Layers.
Does it work across multiple scenes?
Each scene has its own compositor. Phosphor must be enabled separately per scene.
Can I animate the effect?
Yes. All Phosphor properties are part of the scene and can be keyframed. Right-click any control and insert a keyframe. The effect updates per frame during render.
Do saved presets persist after closing Blender?
No. Presets are stored in memory for the current session only.
To keep a setup long-term, save your .blend file with Phosphor active so the values are preserved.
How do I save my own preset?
Go to the Actions section and click Save Preset, then enter a name. It will appear in My Presets for later use.
I changed a preset and want to revert. What should I do?
Open the Profiles section and select any preset. It will immediately replace the current configuration.
If you want to keep your current setup, save it first using Save Preset.
All the controls are disabled. What’s wrong?
Enable Live Preview in the Phosphor panel. Controls are inactive when the effect is off.
I already have compositor nodes set up. Will Phosphor break them?
No. Phosphor inserts itself between your Render Layers and Composite nodes without modifying your existing setup. When removed, your original node structure is restored exactly as it was.
Will it slow down my render?
Phosphor runs as a compositor pass after rendering, so it does not affect render time itself. It only adds a small amount of processing at the end, which is typically negligible.
Viewport preview runs in real time and does not impact render performance.
Does it work with Eevee and Cycles?
Yes. Phosphor processes the Render Layers output, so it works with both Eevee and Cycles without any changes.
Will the CRT effects show up in my final render?
Yes. Phosphor runs through Blender’s compositor, which is part of the render pipeline. The result you see in the viewport with Live Preview enabled is exactly what your final render will output.
