The coolest addon I’ve ever used!

Has the potential to be the go-to blender robot gen addon, just needs a couple kinks ironed out. Easy to make, easy to texture, the rig is there too. Really happy with the purchase

If you are like me and never seem to be able to finish a project before getting sidetracked or mired in the details (while also having a huge boner for robots), this is the add-on for you. Now I still get mired in the details (because you can adjust almost anything here if you're so inclined), but at any point I can decide to stop and still have a finished robot. Or two, or three, in a couple of minutes.
The amount of detail is pretty amazing considering it seems to work with basic shapes, booleans and the black magic of Geonodes or something - sure, you might notice it in close-ups of body parts, but as soon as you have the larger part of the model in view, it's absolutely convincing.
Yeah, the models tend to favor similar body types (at the moment), although there's a huge amount of variation, but consider that for a really, really modest price you get basically an assembly line on crack. It's virtually impossible not to end with something cool here, and it only takes you as long as you need to stop tinkering with *that* one last detail.
Of course I won't complain if additional types would be added, be it fembots as the guy below me wants or more insectoid models etc., but what we already have here is incredible.
Personally I'd like it if the joints could be moved along the limbs so we could have different ratios of upper to lower arms, different head placement or bird-like legs, but I have no idea how difficult it'd be to implement.
Great add-on, and if it gets enhanced further, fantastic.

I have waited for an add-on like this since I have been using Blender, and Alexis.egi is the VERY FIRST to achieve this and has just made history. Let me lay out a full review on how amazing this new add on is:

Simplicity: This add-on comes with a robust but very easy to read and undertand UI, with several customization options under the hood. Navigation is easy, simple and fast. The models themselves are diverse and beautifully created, with a ton of customization depth to every groove, cut, bevel and gear. No matter how many users buy this add-on, I garantee no two will look the same unless you use the default models delivered. Materials: Sleek, beautifully crafted materials come with each mech, giving a sleek and modern, futuristic sci-fi design. The sliders are easy to adjust, no timeout screen, no crashing, and you can modify your mech to your desires with ease. Overall, 10/10 and this is only the launch of this wonderful add-on. I cannot wait for what the future holds for this add-on if we are only in launch mode. No more kit bashing, no more awkward hard shaped complex modeling for animators like me who struggle with mech designs. This is the end all/be all. Trust.

Thank you so much for this honestly wasn't expecting a review this detailed! The "no two will look the same" point is exactly what I was going for with the parameter system glad it comes through.
There's a lot more I want to add to this over time. More material options, more surface detail categories. This is very much the foundation. Reviews like yours make it worth continuing to build. Thank you!

I am not a good modeler, but Robot Designer makes me feel like one. Loaded a preset, played with sliders for 20 minutes, and my robot looks better than anything I've spent days on. Huge time saver and honestly just fun to use.

Surprised this doesn't have more sales. It's one of the most complete addons I've bought. Full pipeline, works exactly as described. Hopefully this helps it get some visibility.

I really appreciate the support! It’s great to know the addon is meeting your expectations and helping with your workflow. Thank you for the review.

Very cool! However with the 5.2, there seems to be no way to change the outline colors and the decals on the outside of the robot, and there are limited options for where you can place details, like the eyes and the ears. Which for the texturing is fine as I plan on texturing myself. But a few of the peremeters available in ads arent available in the newest version, so please keep that in mind. The size changes are amazing, having the ability to adjust the body parts to different lengths is awesome.

Keep it mind it also gives you a very nicely unwrapped editable mesh so if theres anything more you want you can add it yourself.

Hi there! Thanks so much for the review. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the new sizing options and the unwrapped mesh!

Regarding the missing material and decal parameters in 5.2: that was actually a bug. It was supposed to have all the same options as the previous versions. I'm sorry for the hassle, but thanks to your heads-up, I was able to track down the issue!

The fixed version is already live and ready to download with everything working as intended.

Thanks again for taking the time to report this. If you run into anything else, just let me know and I'll be happy to help!

Amazing work! Some things to mention:
Currently the seed values can't be changed at 5.2 as far as I can tell. Use 5.1(.2)
It would be great to be able to mess with some values more, they seem to have a hardcoded max value that can't be overridden by simply typing a bigger value into them.(Why cant i make the neck thicker if i want to?Why can't I move the head down more?)
Maybe some general size sliders would be great that make the whole foot bigger, the whole abs area etc (i see that there is one for the hands if using mixamo rig).

Generally, it would be great to be able to differ from the silhouette a bit more so the generator can make more mech like or "scifi-knight" like designs.

PS: This is based on what i saw in the first hour of usage, i might be wrong and these CAN be changed i just did not find the methods yet. All of these can be changed after finalizing the mesh of course in edit mode but it would be great to do these before that.

    Again: Amazing work!

Thank you Bence, reviews like this one appreciated! Really glad you're enjoying the tool.

On Blender 5.2 compatibility: you're correct, Robot Designer is not yet compatible with 5.2. As you noted it runs perfectly on Blender 5.1 and all previous versions, and full 5.2 compatibility is planned for a future update.

On the capped values: I completely understand why this feels limiting, and it's a fair observation. The caps are there for two deliberate reasons. First, the tool was designed so that no matter how many parameters you change or how far you push them, the result is always a visually coherent robot. The caps are part of what makes that consistency possible. Second, because the entire system is procedural, extreme input values can have cascading consequences on the mesh: boolean calculations, recursive subdivisions, vertex counts. Something like neck width is harmless, but many other parameters can trigger a crash if pushed too far. Until there's a robust way to validate each input individually, the caps are the safest way to protect the user experience.

That said, your idea of per-region global scale sliders (entire foot, entire torso, etc.) is excellent and goes straight onto the roadmap for the next update. I want Robot Designer to become the standard for robot creation in Blender, and feedback like yours is exactly what moves it in that direction.

Thank you again for taking the time to write this up after only an hour of use. Looking forward to hearing what you think once you've gone deeper into the parameters.

This add-on is difficult to use from a mechanical design perspective.
This is because it only has models of thin, lanky male body types.
However, I think it would definitely sell if it could be used to create female mechs. If possible, adding muscular body types would further increase demand.
As it is in its current state, I can only imagine using it as a kitbashing tool, repurposing parts for mechanical design.

Thank you for the detailed feedback, genuinely appreciate it.

You're right that the current presets lean toward a single body type, and that does limit the range of mechanical designs you can achieve out of the box. Worth noting that the deformation and radius parameters can push proportions considerably further than the defaults suggest, including toward more robust and muscular builds. That said, I agree dedicated presets for broader body types would make that more accessible, and it's something I'm actively considering for future updates.

On female mech archetypes: it's an interesting direction and one I'll give serious thought to in terms of how it could be implemented meaningfully within Robot Designer's system. No timeline yet, but it's on my radar.

As for the kitbashing comment: I'd gently push back on that framing. The addon is built around a complete, non-destructive pipeline, with 800+ parameters, a full rig, automatic UVs, and baked textures. The intent and the capability go well beyond parts sourcing. I understand the current body type range limits what you personally can do with it right now, and that's fair feedback. But the tool itself is a full character creation system.

Thanks again for taking the time to leave specific feedback instead of just a rating. It helps.
