Build the roof, fill it with solar panels – in one modifier.
Tidebone Roof & PV is a Geometry Nodes roof generator for houses, sheds, barns and blocked-out city scenes. Put the modifier on a rectangle (mesh or curve) and get a complete roof: tiles laid in exact rows, ridge and hip caps, rake boards, gutters, downpipes, shed dormers, an L-wing – and a PV layout that fills a roof side with whole solar modules, keeps clear of the dormers and counts the modules.
What makes it different from other roof generators: it knows about solar. Module size, gap and margin are inputs; every row is centred; a module is only placed if the whole module fits; the module count, the area and the kWp are outputs, so you can build a rooftop-solar visualisation or a scene dressing that is also right in the numbers.
Features
- Roof forms: gable, hip, shed, pitch 5–70°, separate overhang at eave and rake
- Footprint from any mesh or curve rectangle (or just type Width/Depth); the roof turns so the ridge follows the long side
- Tiles as instances: beaver tail, pantile, rectangular slate; batten gauge and tile pitch fitted so rows and columns are exact; half-tile offset with exact half tiles at the edges
- Ridge caps, hip caps, rake boards, half-round gutters, offset downpipes
- Shed dormers 0–6 with window, tiled roof, apron flashing and an exact cut-out in the main roof
- L-wing (second gable at the same pitch) with valley flashing
-
PV layout: whole modules only, portrait or landscape, gap, margin, framed modules with a procedural cell grid; outputs: module count, kWp, PV area; attribute
pv_module_count - UV maps on tiles and modules (plus CellUV for the cell grid), 9 procedural materials (brick red, anthracite, slate, zinc, plaster, painted wood, window glass, PV cells, PV frame) – no image textures
- Detail levels Proxy / Low / Medium / High, tiles stay instances for real-time viewports; one switch realizes everything for export
- Asset-browser ready, asset catalog included, render-ready demo scene
- No add-ons, no Python at runtime. Tested headless on Blender 4.2 LTS, 4.5 LTS and 5.2 LTS – identical vertex/face counts in all three versions (31 parameter cases, 0 errors)
What it is not (so you know before you buy): no chimneys, skylights, snow guards or free-form footprints; L-shapes are made with the wing option on gable roofs; PV sits on the main roof's front/back plane (not on hip ends, dormer roofs or the wing); the valley is a flashing over a stepped tile edge, not cut tiles. The renders are product visualisations, not photographs.
Included: tidebone_roof_pv.blend (asset + helper groups + materials), asset catalog, demo scene, README, license (1 seat).
