Tidebone Worn Walls – Procedural Ageing for Old Buildings (Geometry Nodes)

Tidebone Studio in Procedural Generators

Make any wall look like it has stood for a hundred winters – with one modifier.

Tidebone Worn Walls is a Geometry Nodes ageing tool for old buildings, ruins, abandoned interiors and gritty city scenes. Add the modifier to a box, plane, beam or pipe, choose a surface and move the Age slider. Plaster falls off in patches and shows the brick underneath, damp and salt creep up from the floor, cracks spread, dirt gathers in the corners, tiles drop out, paint peels off wood and steel rusts through at the edges.

The wear is not just a texture: the chipped areas are real geometry (displaced along the normal, depth in metres), and the same masks drive five included procedural materials. Everything stays editable and nothing is baked.

Features

  • Five surfaces in one menu: plaster, brick, tile, wood, painted metal – or Keep Material to use your own shader with the masks
  • One Age slider (0 = new, 1 = ruined) plus separate controls: Chipping, Chip Depth, Chip Size, Edge Wear, Cracks, Cavity Dirt, Streaks, Rising Damp (with real damp height in metres), Unevenness
  • Real chip displacement and edge/cavity detection from your mesh's hard edges
  • Masks as attributes (tb_age, tb_edge, tb_cavity, tb_damp, tb_streak, tb_chip, tb_crack) – use them in any material, they survive Apply and export
  • Wood grain direction switch (Grain Vertical) for doors and shutters
  • Box-projected UV map in metres, smooth shading with hard corners kept
  • 5 procedural materials (no image textures), asset-browser ready, render-ready demo scene
  • No add-ons, no Python. Tested headless on Blender 4.2 LTS, 4.5 LTS and 5.2 LTS: 30 parameter cases, identical vertex and face counts in all three versions

What it is not (so you know before you buy)

  • Not a game-ready asset (high polycounts at Detail Level 5–7; apply and decimate or bake for real-time)
  • Subdivision is uniform per input face, so model walls as separate pieces instead of one giant object
  • Fine details like crack lines, grout and brick joints come from the shader
  • Checked in Cycles only (EEVEE and the GUI were not tested)
  • It does not cut window or door openings. The renders are product visualisations, not photographs.

Included: tidebone_worn_walls.blend (asset + helper group + 5 materials), asset catalog, demo scene (old house front), README, license (1 seat).
